Understand the key result
The tonic is the note that feels like the tonal home, such as A. The mode describes the major or minor pitch pattern around that tonic. Together they form the musical key, such as A minor.
The Camelot code translates that key into a DJ-friendly harmonic mixing system. A relative key shares the same key signature, while a possible alternative shows where a second harmonic profile disagreed.
Why musical key can be ambiguous
A recording can move between keys, emphasize a relative major or minor, or contain too little pitched material for a stable answer. Sparse introductions, live performances, percussion, speech and noise may still produce a plausible result under the analyzer’s always-output mode.
Use the estimate as a starting point and verify it by ear when a harmonic decision matters. The site does not present the detector strength as a calibrated probability of correctness.
