Browser audio support

Supported Audio Formats

Tempo & Key Finder accepts six common audio extensions. Chromium 150 on macOS is the verified release browser; other browsers still depend on their available codecs.

  • Six common formats
  • 100 MB per file
  • 20 minutes per file
  • Up to 20 files per batch

Accepted file types

WAVMP3M4AAACOGGFLAC

The file picker recognizes these extensions. Actual decoding still depends on the browser, operating system and codec used inside the file. An accepted extension is not a promise that every encoding of that format will decode everywhere.

Safari

Not separately verified

The same six extensions are accepted, but decoding depends on the browser, operating system and codec.

Firefox

The same six extensions are accepted, but decoding depends on the browser, operating system and codec.

Microsoft Edge

The same six extensions are accepted, but decoding depends on the browser, operating system and codec.

“Accepted” means the file picker allows the extension. “Verified” means decode and analysis were completed in the named browser and operating system. These are different claims.

What is not listed as supported

AIFF is not included because it failed the release-browser decode check. Video containers, project files, MIDI and streaming-service links are also outside the current analyzer. Converting a file to a standard WAV or MP3 may help when the original codec is unsupported, but conversion quality and rights remain your responsibility.

Mobile and long-file considerations

Audio decoding uses device memory. A file can stay within the size and duration limits yet still exceed the resources available in a particular mobile browser. Close other memory-heavy tabs or try a shorter file if analysis stops unexpectedly.
